This application note describes an LCD controllerimplementation using a PIC16C55 microcontroller. Thistechnique offers display capabilities for applicationsthat require a small display at a low cost, together withthe capabilities of the standard PIC16C55 microcontroller.We start by an overview of LCD devices and theirtheory of operation followed by software implementationissues of the controller. The source code for controllinga multiplexed LCD display is included inAppendix A.
