The output voltage of power supplies and DC to DC converters is regulated by dividing down the output,comparing it with a stable reference, amplifying theerror, and then using this error signal to control the input to output power transfer. Many applications use an expensive and unreliable mechanicalpotentiometer in the divider to precisely set the outputvoltage, as shown in Figure 1.
