Modern successive-approximation analog-to-digital converterICs are replacing older current-mode D/A structures withcapacitor arrays, called CDACs (for Capacitor D/A). Thischange makes it easier to combine the analog components ofthe converter with the digital elements in standard CMOSstructures. Additionally, the capacitor input structure addsinherent sampling to the A/D, at a time when more and moreA/D applications are involved in signal processing.
