The TPS6131x family is an integrated soluTIon with awide feature set for driving up to three LEDs forsTIll-camera flash strobe and video-camera lighTIngapplicaTIons. It is based on a high efficiencysynchronous boost topology with combinable currentsinks to drive up to three white LEDs in parallel. The2MHz switching frequency allows the use of smalland low-profile 2.2mH inductors. To optimize overallefficiency, the device operates with a lowLED-feedback voltage and regulated output-voltageadaptation.The device integrates a control scheme thatautomatically optimizes the LED current flash budgetas a function of the battery voltage condition.The TPS6131x not only operates as a regulatedcurrent source, but also as a standard voltage boostregulator. The device enters power-save modeoperation at light load currents to maintain highefficiency over the entire load current range. Theseoperating modes can be useful to supply other highpower devices in the system (e.g. hands-free audioPA).
