The EL6915 is a highly integratedlaser diode driver designed to supportmulTI-standard writable opTIcal drives.It accomplishes this by incorporaTIng a waveform generatorwherein the diode currents and TIming details can beprogrammed before operation. The data input circuitryinspects the NRZ serial data waveform and generatesprogrammed waveforms in recognition of 3, 4, 5, or 6 ormore clock periods of space changing to 3, 4, 5, or 6 or moreclock periods of mark, and vice versa. The part also has anIV amplifier with concurrent read and write sampling. Thegains of the IV amplifier are programmable, eliminating theneed for external potentiometers.The architecture allows reprogramming of the timers tosupport different media, DVD or CD standards, and differentspeeds. The programming is accomplished through a serialinterface port. Two outputs are provided to support duallasermulti-standard optical heads. The clock and NRZinputs can be either standard CMOS or LVDS, selectablethrough a program bit.The EL6915 operates on a 5V supply for the analog circuitsand a 3.3V supply for the digital circuits.
