Freescale Semiconductor’s MC44S803 isa 3.3V, low-power, high-performance,single-chip CMOS broadband tuner. This chipoffers a cost-effecTIve, low-power soluTIon forthe high-performance analog and digital TVmarket. The highly integrated third generaTIonsilicon tuner receives 48 MHz to 861 MHz radiofrequency (RF) signals and converts them to asecond intermediate frequency (IF) of 30 MHzto 50 MHz.The single-chip broadband tuner usesdouble-conversion architecture, whicheliminates tracking filters and their manuallyaligned coils. Two IF outputs are provided tosupport systems with mulTIple demodulators(e.g. one digital demodulator and one analogTV demodulator). The MC44S803 is designed to meet all DataOver Cable Service Interface Specifications(DOCSISs) for 64- and 256-quadratureamplitude modulation (QAM) as well as theNorDig Unified 1.0.1 specifications for codedorthogonal frequency-division multiplexing(COFDM) for DVB-T.The device is available in a Pb-free 64-pin quadleadless package (QFN). The chip is carefullydesigned for flexible power consumption anddissipates as low as 700 mW typical.
