When a buck regulator is used in applicaTIons where outputshort-circuit and overload condiTIons occur, the duty cyclerequired to keep the inductor current under control canbe lower than the regulator’s minimum duty cycle whenoperaTIng at full speed. Therefore, to effecTIvely protect atraditional regulator under such conditions, its switchingfrequency must be reduced to a speed that can safelyhandle the maximum expected input voltage.
