The CA3277 dual 5V regulator was designed to performreliably in harsh Automotive and Industrial environmentswhere reverse voltages and unclamped inductive loads arecommonly present. The primary 5V regulator OUT1 isgenerally used to power a microprocessor and backupCMOS memory. For systems requiring low power operation,the auxiliary 5V regulator, OUT2 can be disabled by applyinga logic low signal to the ENABLE pin. Both regulators arecapable of supplying up to 100mA at 5V and are internallyprotected against over-voltage, over-current and over-temperatureconditions. This Application Note explores the basicstructure of the CA3277 and presents several examples onapplying the unique features of this device.
