This applicaTIon note gives an overview about the importance and variousopportuniTIes for sophisTIcated ESD protecTIon for HDMI receiver andtransmitter interfaces. A broad portfolio of interface solutions starting frompure ESD protection arrays up to fully integrated interface ICs includinglevel shifting, ESD and backdrive protection are discussed. Important TDRmeasurements as well as Eye diagrams demonstrate the highperformance of these NXP Semiconductors products with the world-widelowest line capacitance available in Silicon technology. It is demonstrated,that such fully integrated solutions from NXP Semiconductors enableseasy routing and relaxed board design. The presented solutions are fullycompliant with HDMI 1.2 and HDMI 1.3.
